LUNCH MONEY

Through a generous grant, IDEO had the opportunity to work closely with the San Francisco Unified School District to reinvent the school lunch experience for San Francisco public schools.
We designed a new food system for the district that centered on the notion of distinctly different dining modes for Elementary, Middle and High School. The new system recognizes that these are three very different audiences with very different developmental needs. The school dining experience evolves to support each student as they grow.
Community input and feedback were integral to the projects success. Towards the latter half of the project we constructed an exhibit of our concepts, in a middle school cafeteria to share our concepts with key stake-holders and community members.
The look and feel of the exhibit was designed to be polished enough for people to understand our vision, but not too ‘finished’ looking to discourage input. The audience was also very diverse, from elementary students, parents, funders, teachers, employees and school district representatives, so it was vital that the communication be clear, simply and succinct.
